Welcome to the website of Jackie and David Harding who live on Fishponds Close in Wingerworth, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Wingerworth is a large village with many houses being built in the 1950s and 1960s but its origins can be traced back to Saxon times. Much of   the modern housing is built on land previously part of the Hunloke Estate  which was sold in 1920. The Estate is known to date from about 1540 and it  is thought that the old manor house was demolished some time after 1600  and replaced by the new Wingerworth Hall. By 1690 two new wings were  added. Unfortunately when the estate was being sold there was a lack of   interest in the main Hall building and this was demolished between 1924  and 1927. The two 'new' wings together with the stable block and outbuildings are all that now remains. The land including many farms  passed into private ownership at that time. The remaining buildings were  divided into individual dwellings some time prior to the sale and remain  in use today. As the village is based on the Hunloke Estate it is well laid out with many open spaces and a number of ponds, some of these having  been created to supply water for industrial purposes as ironstone was mined and smelted in the village during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
